pt. 2 Gallery is pleased to present “Strange Wildflowers” a solo exhibition featuring a new series of paintings created over the last year by Los Angeles-based artist Cannon Dill. This will be Dill’s fourth solo exhibition with the gallery.
The exhibition will focus on a new narrative envisioned by Dill, keeping in line with his typical oeuvre of loose fantasy narrative. Strange Wildflowers explores the story of an isolated Magician who discovers he possesses magic that originates from a rare red wildflower. When said flower is consumed, the magician experiences euphoria and unspeakable abilities - leading him to become the magician he is today. But his deep curiosity in the flower leads him further into isolation, staining his skin red. This particular body of work explores certain qualities of the magician's life, his possessions and the scenery where this story unfolds.
Dill is known for his very textural mark making, expanding the current conversation as a “naive” painter in a unique manner. The work continues to utilize colorful abstractions, playful figuration with sharp elements of design, while maintaining simple story telling.
